Fourth of July BBQ Sides Worthy of Your Picnic Table

The Fourth of July is all about independence, and that includes the freedom to eat your face off. Whether you’re hosting a BBQ or attending a friend’s and bringing a side, tons of dishes are sure to cue the fireworks. These include the following:

Potato Salad

A BBQ without potato salad is like apple pie without apples. The quintessential summer side, potato salad comes in many varieties. This recipe calls for buttery potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, mayo (or Miracle Whip), vinegar, pickle relish, celery and onion, mustard, salt and pepper, and paprika. Eat it with a juicy hamburger, a crispy chicken leg, or straight out of the bowl.

Baked Beans

Like other BBQ sides, there are various ways to prepare baked beans. This recipe uses diced bacon, sweet onion, bell pepper, garlic, smoked paprika, chipotle chili powder, pepper, barbecue sauce, dijon mustard, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar, the sweetest ingredient of all. The sugar adds a bit of a twist and helps the beans sate your sweet tooth and appetite.

Grilled Corn on the Cob

Another BBQ staple, grilled corn on the cob, is a favorite among attendees and is the envy of anyone wearing braces. This recipe gives the griller many options, including traditional and out-of-the-box flavors. Whether you’re in the mood for corn with ancho chili powder and Cotija cheese or cob with sugar and cinnamon, lend your ears to this tasty option.

Cucumber Salad

This cucumber salad recipe uses mayo, white sugar, white vinegar, dill weed, salt, and, most importantly, cucumbers. It offers unique flavorings that refresh the palate. With a cucumber base, it won’t fill BBQ attendees up too quickly, leaving them plenty of room for all the other dishes.

Fruit Salad

This fruit salad recipe is a sweet, juicy dish that’s a hit with fruit lovers of all ages. While it can be made year-round, summer, when fruit is more likely to be ripest, makes an excellent time for kiwi and lime! The fruits in this salad include strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, grapes, Mandarin oranges, and bananas...all topped off with honey!

America the Beautiful makes way for America the Hungry come July 4th. Give your side a chance to shine by picking one of the above dynamic dishes. Here’s to the land of the free and the home of the cravings!
